Cardio-metabolic disease causes heart disease, stroke, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer’s, cancer and many other chronic diseases including aging itself. The root cause of cardio-metabolic disease is “insulin resistance”.

  • Fries
  • Fast Food:Pizza, Burgers,Chicken Nuggets
  • Cooking with vegetable oils

The above mentioned foods are in most people lives on a daily basis. Upon consuming these items, insulin levels spike which results in a sharp drop of blood sugar levels. This triggers craving for more sugar, which leads to another spike in insulin and so on. When this ‘up and down cycle’ continues over time your cells lose their sensitivity to insulin and ever-increasing levels of insulin are needed to move glucose into cells.This is known as ‘insulin resistance’ and is the primary symptom of cardio-metabolic disease.

That is why these sobering statistics don’t come as a surprise to anyone:
1 in 3 people on Earth today are overweight
when we include the “skinny fat” close to 3.5 billion people are insulin resistant
cardiovascular disease is still the #1 cause of death worldwide
diabetes has doubled worldwide in the last two decades
annual cancer cases are expected to rise from 14 to 22 million with the next two decades

At Primal MD we believe that cardio-metabolic disease can be halted and reversed with the original Paleo diet - nutrient-dense quality meats, fish, seeds, nuts, fruits and vegetables. It does not include grains (bread, pasta, rice etc), dairy, processed sugars, trans-fats and vegetable oils. Paleo favors the type of food we are genetically “designed” to eat before the Agricultural Revolution 7,000 years ago.
